Review: Jade Goody Dying

"I look at her and I wanna headbutt her." Jade
“I look at her and I wanna headbutt her.” – Jade

When people said “I want her to go away and die” I don’t think they expected her to do it. Jade Goody pisses me off as much as the next man, but I don’t want her to die. Even at her lowest low during the Big Brother race row with Shilpa Shetty, she wasn’t as bad as everyone thought. It was that vile pig Jo O’Meara from S-Club 7 that was genuinely nasty. Jade was stupid and made racist comments through complete ignorance. I never felt she was actually racist, just plain old stupid Jade. Now, unbelievably she is dying at 27 – my age – from cervical cancer. There’s something fantastical and tragic about the way Jade came into our lives publicly and is now dying so soon in front of us in the same way. It boggles the mind. How often do young celebrities die in front of us? Yet here one is, the most unlikeliest. This article on the Telegraph website claims Jade is dying without dignity because she never had it. This opinion is wrong. In her final act of no dignity for her children, Jade has gained it. Going out with a bang to make money for your children gets top marks.

While I feel that it is tragic that a woman of 27 with two young children is dying of cancer I don’t feel any more empathy towards her than I do to the many other young women in the same situation that are not making thousands of pounds from selling their story to various newspapers. While I don’t begrudge the woman for making money for her children, I do have a bit of a problem with the shameless way in which she has done it. For me, the fact that she has continuously sold her story to EVERY major newspaper and magazine has really devalued the tragedy for me. If anything, it has shown how selfish she is by instead of using her illness and monies gained from selling the stories to help other young women in the same situation that do not have the luxury of making money out of their tragic circumstance.

I Dont know for sure, having fortunately not bed in that position -touch wood- but im guessing that if i had only days to live, the thought foremost in my mind would be to provide,if possible, for those left behind, and not to increase awareness of the illness and others in similar situations. Selfish? Definately. But my thoughts would be on the people closest to me and softening the blow for them,so to speak. I see where you’re coming from though. It would be better to spread the money and awareness of other people suffering in the same way who not in the public eye,but it would take a very selfless person for that. Her plight in the papers has made me think though and subsequently donate towards cervical cancer. Hopefully its made women more aware about being checked regularly too.
